Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

 

Author Guidelines

We welcome the following types of submissions:

  1. Original research papers which examine equality and diversity in any discipline/sector from any geographical location. Papers may be position pieces, theoretically informed empirical work, theoretical pieces or systematic literature reviews (between 6000 to 8000 words plus references and a 200 word abstract and up to five key words).
  2. Case studies, including examples of equality and diversity interventions from the public and private sector, teaching, charities and other bodies (maximum length 5000 words plus references and a 150 word summary).
  3. Letters – this may include responses to previously published studies – we hope to encourage debate.
  4. Professional insight including, teaching resources (many of our readers will be engaged in teaching within higher education and the school system), community and industrial outreach and reports from conferences, training sessions etc (maximum length of 1500 words)
  5. Essays from students in the field of equality and diversity (maximum length 3000 words plus references and 150 word abstract).

Submissions will be first reviewed by a member of the editorial team who will decide on its suitability for the journal. Original papers and case studies will be subject to double blind peer review by at least two reviewers who may be academics, independent researchers or practitioners.  Following reviews submissions may be returned to authors for amendments. Potential authors are welcome to contact the editor directly to check the suitability of their material.

 

Author Guidelines

 

  • All submissions must be in electronic format as a MS Word file (illustrations in a separate file PNG, GIF or JPEG). Tables should be included in text in the MS Word file.
  • All submissions must be based on original material and must not be under consideration by any other journal or other publication.  Currently
  • Submissions can be in accepted in English (US or UK), Greek, Thai, Portugese, German, Turkish and French. All submissions must include an abstract written in English.
  • Original Papers, Case Studies and Student Essays. To facilitate the anonymity of this process  submit submit a ‘blind’ copy of the manuscript without author details. In addition, please  submit a separate version of the manuscript which includes author name, addresses, affiliations, contact information.  This document may also include author biographies. Your submission should clearly indicate the type of submission: original paper, case study or student essay. Teaching resources, reports of conferences, training sessions, community outreach and industry engagement should be submitted under the heading of professional insight. These materials will be double-blind reviewed by subject matter experts.  In order to enhance topicality for conference or other events, reports must be submitted within 90 days of the event.
  • All submissions should be accompanied by a covering letter to the editor which identifies the key contribution of the submission, the type of submission and a lay summary.
  • Submissions should follow Harvard referencing style
  • Submission formatting
    • The title should be in English and clearly convey the contents of the submission
    • Submissions should be double spaced using size 12 font
    • Submissions should be divided into headings, sub headings and sub-sub headings
    • Where appropriate, acknowledgements should refer to the source of funding for the research presented
    • Authors are responsible for proof reading their own submissions and for ensuring the accuracy of their submission
    • Submissions which do not follow the author guidelines will be returned to the author/s.

 

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

    1. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
       
    2. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.

    3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (See The Effect of Open Access).
